Have you ever heard of Extranormal? It was Latin America's top paranormal investigation show. Somewhat like Ghost Adventures or Ghost Hunters, but better.

I could go on for hours about everything I've found regarding Extranormal, but this one stood out to me the most: The chilling career and mysterious afterlife of its most famous psychic medium, Laura Rivas.

Funny, I never actually got to watch the show's seasons since I lived in Los Angeles and we didn't get the full Televisa programming, so I just got to see it when visiting Mexico or through Youtube.

Anyway, Laura’s journey remains one of the most intense sagas in modern esotericism. Here is the breakdown of her most terrifying cases:

**The On-Air Possession at Panteón de Dolores (2010)**

In 2010, Laura Rivas and the *Extranormal* crew entered Mexico City’s Panteón de Dolores, one of the largest cemeteries in Latin America, holding millions of souls. When they were around the mass graves (*fosa común*), Laura used a radio frequency receiver to detect electromagnetic spirit signals.

Microphones captured weird, unnatural weeping and guttural voices echo through the dark. But then, Laura collapsed onto the dirt. As crew members rushed to help, her body went stiff, her eyes rolled back, and she began growling and speaking in an unnatural, aggressive voice.

It took minutes for the team to pull her back. Laura later recalled fighting desperately against an entity trying to claim her physical body to experience life again: *"It was one of the hardest things I've done in my entire life... it was like being born again."*

**El Ermitaño & The Stolen Soul of Cañada de Lobos (2020)**

Ten years later, Laura encountered a case that would mark the trajectory of her remaining years.

You see, this time, the team ventured into the dense wilderness of Cañada de Lobos in San Luis Potosí to find Nicolás González, "El Ermitaño" (The Hermit), a blind hermit who claimed dark witches had ritually stripped him of his sight.

During the trek, Laura was overcome by overwhelming dark energy and had to stop while the rest of the crew went forward. She said that the dark entities blocked her path.

Following the investigation, Laura publicly stated that her spirit was severed and left behind in those woods, leading to severe breakdowns in her health, career, and personal life. Laura returned months later to reclaim her soul. During an intense cleansing ritual directed by metaphysician Octavio Elizondo, utilizing a Saint Benedict medal and four cardinal lights, Laura convulsed on the ground.

Both Laura and witnesses reported that live maggots and glass fragments came out from her hair during the unbinding. Freakin' creepy.

**Beyond the Screen: Legend, Relics, and Official Truth**

Laura was the first of the group to pass away on July 3, 2024\.

Soon after she passed, internet rumors started coming out, claiming she had died as a result of demonic retaliation or black magic lingering from her investigations.

But just like that influencer that passed away recently after messing with a haunted object, we can't simply jump to conclusions like this. This is someone's life we're talking about, and we have to be respectful.

Her sister Marcela and brother Luis published an official statement through their channel *Brujos en Armonía* to dismantle these rumors. They told us that Laura died from medical complications from severe gastric ulcers, asking fans to stop attributing her death to dark magic or possession.

But still, the work she did is definitely not something I'd mess with. The famous investigator Alberto del Arco received several of Laura's personal ritual dolls (*duendes*) from her family. Alberto noted that staff in his office regularly see the duendes mysteriously shifting positions and moving when no one is watching.

There's obviously a lot more stuff to go through about this show, since it has it's own share of drama, but I'll add a few of them in upcoming newsletters. I'm working on a piece for [Horror Story](https://horrorstory.com/?ref=club.paranormalclub.com) right now, so I'll have the full details there.

Oh! And by the way, remember that one episode on [The Curse of La Mano Peluda](https://paranormalclub.com/episode/the-curse-of-la-mano-peluda-plus-your-stories?ref=club.paranormalclub.com) that I made? I mention Juan Ramón Sáenz and his encounter with the man who claimed had been possessed by demons? Well, the encounter is in an episode of Extranormal.

Sadly, Juan didn't get to continue with the show because he died shortly after, but that's a whole other story.

Are these things all coincidences?
